Promaster Console Table

The OEM drink holders in the center console of the RAM Promaster are way to low, almost on the floor! Making them difficult to use for the driver while driving. So, I built a small swing out tray fastened to the center console. Based on a design I noticed in the Safari Condo Class B RVs.

    Key Features;

  • Small size, mostly to hold drinks or perhaps a snack
  • Mounted at normal height for easy access by the driver
  • Swings down when not in use
  • Detachable with Quick Disconnect hinge!
For those interesting in the design for our prototype, here are some details...

The table top was constructed from a plastic cutting board purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond. The shape was cut using a small table top bandsaw, but a regular jig saw should also suffice. The cup holders are 4" "drop in cup holders" we ordered on Amazon. I had to purchase a 3-5/8" hole saw to cut the holes in the table top for the cup holders.

The view below is the bottom side of the table, showing the layout of the quick disconnect hinge, drop in cup holders, and the 1 inch square aluminum bracket hand fabricated with a 3/4 inch hole drilled centered in the bottom side of the tube only.

The view to the right is showing how the quick disconnect hinge was fastened to the removable center console panel (looking from the back side top of the panel). To remove the panel, lift up on the existing cup holder assembly to remove it. You will see 2 screws now exposed, remove them. On the top of the panel are 2 small plastic covers, remove those to expose the remaining 2 screws (4 total now). The center console panel should now snap out. It has several snap clips holding in in place in addition to the 4 screws. Once the center console panel is removed, you can fasten the hinge. And then reinstall the center console panel.

Note: Leave enough space between the edge of the center panel and the hinge pivot point (the pin) to allow the table to swing up so the dowel rod can be removed for storing the table in the down position.

This view shows the support rod used when the table is in the deployed position. The support rod is held by the square tube aluminum receiver on the bottom of the shelf, and simply uses the middle cup holder in the console for support on the bottom. To store the table, simply lift up the table and remove the rod. The table will then swing down in the storage position, moving out of the way in the center cab area.
